This is by far the steepest approach to the waterfalls described, and do take care to descend carefully. The waterfall is reached, having passed an old mill and it is breathtaking, even in summer when the water flow is at its minimum. The remains of the mill are 16th century, but the original foundations and site is medieval.

Walk: Sarnano to "Cascata dell'Antico Mulina"

This walk happened on Monday 14 August 2023, in the middle of the Italian holiday season. Sarnano is located in Le Marche, being in the region of Macerata. It is an hour's drive from the A14 road at Civitanova Marche, and also has a regular bus service (SASP) from Macerata six days a week (no services on Sundays). To do all waterfalls mentioned below, you will need good walking shoes since the terrain varies from tarmac/asphalt to uneven stones.

There is plenty of free parking in Sarnano and we parked in the largest car park nearest the centre. Having walked up the steps onto Borgo Giuseppe Garibaldi, we followed that road down the hill (there is a path alongside some of it) until the road takes a sharp loop to the right (almost turning 180 degrees), where we turned left off it and shortly afterwards turning right onto Via "del Colle" [signposted-see picture] and further downhill past the domed Sports centre. About 300 metres further on, you'll see a wooden signpost on the left of the road with "Cascata dell'Antico Mulina" which is reassuring. Keep a close eye out on the right side of the road where the sign is repeated, and where you leave Via "Del Colle" and take a well-trodden track that sharply descends towards the waterfall.
