Horse-mounted jouster at La Quintana,

At the Tournament a (horse) rider represents each Sestieri (borough) and is dressed in their colours; in medieval times riders would have attempted to dislodge each other from their mounts but these days the riders must aim their lance (pole) at a target. Points are awarded for accuracy and speed; rather than trying to dislodge another rider (as they would have done in days of yore), the target is now a representation of a Saracen! This rider wears the colours of Porta Solesta, a borough to the north-west of Ascoli Piceno.
