Take the great Italian road

Having travelled a lot around Italy, by car, public transport and by foot, I thought it might be useful to provide a test of your knowledge of Italian roadside signs. While most of these are designed for vehicle users, there are some which are appropriate for all road users. Following an easy starter, there are two levels you can choose - easier and harder. The easier version provides the complete sign (in other words, picture and descriptive text) where the hard version only provides the text.

For an extra challenge see if you can complete all 10 questions in less than 2 minutes.

My programming skills don't extend to providing automatic scoring, so you will have to remember it yourself! There are three options for each sign and humour is sometimes employed. Scoring is thus for successful answers:

  • (Easy) question at 1st attempt = 3
  • (Easy) question at 2nd attempt = 2
  • (Easy) question at 3rd attempt = 1
  • Hard question at 1st attempt = 6
  • Hard question at 2nd attempt = 3
  • Hard question at 3rd attempt = 1

The test is designed to be educational. Maximum marks possible are 50.
